The 2021 Ginetta GT5 Challenge kicked off at Thruxton, racing alongside the British Touring Car package! With no testing available on the Friday of the race weekend, everyone had to enter qualifying on Saturday with a fresh set of eyes on what the track conditions could be like, and how to get the most out of the cars.
During Qualifying, Josh immediately adapted to the conditions, claiming the first pole position and racing nine tenths of a second faster than the driver in second, and over a second faster than the rest of the field. A perfect start to the weekend lining up pole for Race 1 and Race 2.
As the focus shifted to Race 1, the team and Josh had to take a gamble to either stay on wet tyres or slick tyres as half of the track was dry while the other half was wet. Josh opted for wet tyres although most of the field were on slicks, but after a red flag and 2 safety cars, the track dried rapidly and Josh ended up finishing in 6th.
Moving onto Sunday’s race, televised on ITV4, Josh started from pole position and led every lap from start to finish, showing a dominant display all race, earning his first win in the series! Next up is Brands Hatch GP in 2 weeks’ time!
